A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam to jail in a case lodged over the murder of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order as police produced Qamrul before the court after end of his eight-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of probe.
The court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman on November 19 had placed the former minister on eight-day remand in the case.
Police on November 18 arrested Advocate Qamrul from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area.
Abdul Wadud was killed in the city's New Market area on July 19 last during the anti-discrimination student movement.
