Batting, fielding have been the major concerns for Nigar Sultana and Co as they take on Ireland in a three-match ODI series starting from Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the capital. However, the tigress captain aims to dominate in the series as according to Ranking Bangladesh is ahead of Ireland in ODI.
Despite not doing well in recent times, Bangladesh skipper Nigar said they aim to dominate Ireland - who are three places behind the hosts in the ICC ODI rankings - in the ODIs. This series is very important for Tigresses as they aim for direct qualification in the women’s World Cup in India next year.
While Bangladesh are coming off a five-match losing streak in ODIs, Ireland recently beat England on their home ground. They also look stronger than the last time these two teams faced each other back in 2017.
But Nigar doesn’t think that will be a problem for the Tigresses in Mirpur.
“Playing at home gives any team an advantage. If you look at recent series, except against Australia, we’ve performed well. However, we can’t take any opposition lightly. Securing these six points is critical. Every match matters. We aim to dominate, especially since Ireland is ranked below us,” Nigar said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
“If we can’t dominate against them, how will we compete eye-to-eye with stronger teams?"
