Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has instructed the police not to act unprofessionally as tools of any political party, nor to implement their agendas or unjust demands.
He gave this directive during the passing-out parade of the 40th BCS batch of probationary assistant superintendents of police (ASP) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarada, Rajshahi, on Sunday.
Home Affairs Adviser stated, "The state of Bangladesh belongs to all its citizens, not to any political party, group, or community. The Bangladesh Police are independent employees of the Republic, who follow the law meticulously.”
The Adviser added, “As employees of the Republic, the Bangladesh Police will work tirelessly to ensure the safety and rule of law for all citizens of the state.”
He also added, “The police will not serve as tools for any party to enforce their agendas or comply with unjust and illegal orders, nor will they engage in unprofessional or illegal behavior. Today, you will take this oath during the ceremony.”
This batch had a total of 66 trainees, who were supposed to participate in the passing-out parade at least four months ago. Due to various complications, the event was delayed.
Ultimately, six probationary assistant superintendents of police from this batch were discharged. The decision for three others is still pending. A total of 57 trainees participated in the passing-out parade.
Senior police officials were present at the ceremony.
