Mehidy Hasan Miraz went past fellow allrounder Shakib Al Hasan to take most wickets by a Bangladesh bowler in overseas condition after taking two wickets in West Indies' second innings in the first cricket Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, reports BSS.
With these two wickets, Miraz took his overseas wickets tally to 85, two more than Shakib Al Hasan. While Shakib's 83 wickets came in 26 matches, Miraz played 25 matches to surpass the senior allrounder.
But Shakib grabbed five-wicket five times in away Test, two more than Miraz. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam and pacer Taskin Ahmed grabbed 41 wickets in 15 and 14 matches respectively in away from the country.
Taskin, however, took his tally to 41, thanks to his career-best 6-64 against West Indies' second innings. Mohammad Rafiqur has 34 away wickets in 15 matches.
Earlier, Shakib lost his home record to Taijul Islam. During the South Africa series, Taijul eclipsed Shakib's home wickets tally of 163. Taijul has now 170 wickets at home. Miraz is following Taijul with 104 wickets.
However, despite losing his home and away record to Taijul and Miraz respectively, Shakib is still the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Test cricket with 246 wickets in 71 matches. Taijul has 211 matches in 50 Test while Miraz so far took 189 matches in the same number of Test like Taijul.
Since Shakib has no chance to play Test again, Taijul is the frontrunner to take the accolade of highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh.
