Intern doctors of all medical colleges in Sylhet, including the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, are on a 'complete shutdown' to realize their five-point demands, including stopping the use of the title of doctor without an MBBS degree. They have been observing this program since 9 am on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the private chambers of doctors will remain closed on Tuesday in solidarity with the demands.
Except for the emergency and ICU departments, all outdoor medical services have been closed since morning. Patients coming to the hospital for services are suffering immensely due to this disruption.
The intern doctors said that according to the prevailing law in the country, no one without an MBBS or BDS can claim the identity of a doctor. 10,000 doctors should be recruited shortly and the age limit for entry into BCS jobs should be increased to 34 years. Infamous private medical colleges should be closed. The writ that has been filed challenging the BMDC Act-2010, the verdict of which is scheduled for March 12, should not be delayed.
They also said all doctors have expressed solidarity with the demand. “Therefore, all types of private chambers of doctors will be closed today. Although this will cause temporary problems for patients, this movement will reform the medical sector in Bangladesh,” they added.
