The court has ordered the seizure of 54 kathas of land registered under the name of Aziz Khan, chairman of Summit Group, brother of former MP Faruk Khan of the Gopalganj-1 constituency, along with his family and associates.
Although the deed value of the land is recorded as Tk1.47 crore, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated in its application that its actual value is Tk9.71 crore. On Tuesday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge, Md Zakir Hossain Galib, passed the order in response to the ACC’s application. ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed this information.
According to court sources, ACC Deputy Director Alamgir Hossain submitted the application for the seizure of these properties. The application states that a joint investigation team has been formed to probe various allegations against Summit Group and its associated entities. These include accusations of illicit wealth accumulation through bribery and corruption, as well as the laundering of crores of taka abroad.
During the investigation, confidential sources indicated a possibility that the immovable property linked to the complaint might be transferred. To prevent this, the ACC deemed it necessary to seize the assets in question.
Earlier, on 9 March, the court ordered the freezing of 191 bank accounts belonging to Summit Group, which collectively hold nearly Tk42 crore.
