The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has rounded up 197 individuals operating patrols and checkpoints, reports BSS.
DMP operate these patrols and check-posts as parts of its security arrangements across the city for ensuring public safety, and law and order.
In the last 24 hours it operated 667 patrol teams and 71 check-posts, said a media release of DMP on Wednesday.
According to the Crime Command and Control Center of DMP, the patrol teams performed duties in two shifts for public safety under its 50 police stations from 12:01am to 11:59pm on Tuesday.
Out of these, 340 teams performed duties at night, while 327 teams during the day.
The patrol teams include 479 mobile patrol teams, 73 foot patrol teams, and 115 motorcycle patrol teams.
In addition, 71 police check-posts are operated by the DMP at various important and strategic locations to enhance security in the metropolitan area.
Along with the DMP, 14 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) patrol teams (two shifts), 12 Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) patrol teams (three shifts) and 10 RAB patrol teams with the DMP are on duty at various crime-prone areas of the metropolis, and 20 check-posts are operated by the APBn, a specialized unit of the police.
In the last 24 hours, 197 people involved in various crimes were arrested in 83 combing operations conducted in different areas of the city.
The arrestees include 14 robbers, 12 professional active muggers, three extortionists, 12 thieves, 31 individuals wanted in previous cases, and nine identified drug dealers.
In the operation, seven machetes, six knives, one Chinese axe, three mobile phones, one pliers, one sewing range and other different types of tools were seized.
In addition, the drugs include 116 pieces of Yaba, 2 grams of heroin and 1.525 kgs of ganja.
In the last 24 hours, 55 cases were filed with different police stations of DMP.
