The 'World Kidney Day-2025’ will be observed in the country and elsewhere across the globe tomorrow, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of sound kidneys.
This year's theme of the day is ‘Are your kidney ok? Detect early, protect kidney health’, a PID press release said today (March 12), reports BSS.
The day is going to be marked in Bangladesh through holding different programmes including rallies, discussions and seminars on kidney diseases and its prevention methods.
On the eve of the day, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today issued a message wishing the success of all the programmes taken on the occasion of the 'World Kidney Day'.
Dr Yunus in his message said, kidneys help in removing waste products from the human body, maintain normal blood electrolyte levels and also play an important role in the production of red blood cells.
Noting that kidney disease is a silent killer in human body, the Chief Adviser said the World Health Organization fears that kidney disease may become the fourth leading cause of death in the world by 2040.
"The number of these patients is also increasing rapidly in Bangladesh. Various factors including unhealthy and uncontrolled lifestyle, diabetes, high blood pressure, excessive use of painkillers and food adulteration are responsible for the increase in the incidence of this disease," he added.
"Although there is modern treatment for kidney disease in the country, it is very expensive. Therefore, creating public awareness in preventing kidney disease along with remedies is very important," he said.
The Interim Government formed through the students-workers-people uprising is working to ensure quality healthcare for the people of the country, he said.
"I believe that the observance of 'World Kidney Day 2025' will play a positive role in increasing public awareness about the treatment and prevention of kidney diseases," Dr Yunus continued.
