Students of Dhaka University staged a protest demanding the arrest of Lucky Akter, a leader of the Bangladesh Students' Union(Bangladesh Chhatra Union) and a key organizer of the Gonojagoron Moncho, along with others accused of attacking the police near the InterContinental hotel.
On early Wednesday, students from various halls gathered in processions. The protest march began from the residential hall areas, paraded through several key roads on campus, and concluded at Shahbagh.
During the demonstration, the protesters chanted slogans such as:
“L for Lucky, you are Hasina, you are Hasina"
"No place for Shahbaghis(in Bangladesh)."
"No more resistance, it's time for retaliation,"
"One, two, three, four,
Shahbagh no more."
"My brother is in the grave, why is Lucky still free?"
The agitated students demanded Lucky's arrest within 24 hours.
AB Zubair, a student of the Department of Islamic Studies, said, "Those who committed murders through the Gonojagoron Moncho in 2013 are trying to regroup. They have attacked our police officers. As long as we live, there will be no place for Shahbaghis in Bangladesh."
He further stated, "Our law enforcement agencies were carrying out their duties peacefully, but the notorious Shahbaghis attacked them. We will never accept the resurgence of Shahbaghis in Bangladesh."
Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, a student of the Department of Bangla, said, "The Shahbaghis have attacked the police to disrupt law and order in the country. Lucky and the others must be arrested immediately."
He further said, "I am urging the government advisers to learn from the past. Otherwise, you will witness another mass uprising."
