The National Identity (NID) registration wing has made a policy decision to include nicknames and the names of multiple wives on national identity cards.
ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the National Identity Registration Wing, confirmed this on Monday.
He stated, “We have received numerous correction requests, many of which indicate that individuals are unable to include their nicknames. Consequently, we have been unable to address these concerns. To resolve this, we discussed the issue yesterday, and the initial suggestion was that, since many people in Bangladesh use nicknames distinct from their official or legal names, permitting nicknames in the second field could help identify more individuals."
