Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has submitted 62 proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, which include recommendations to retain the posts of Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister.
On Tuesday, a two-member BNP delegation, led by Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, presented the written proposals to the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, Professor Ali Riaz.
Following the submission, Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that the 62 proposals were submitted on behalf of the party, addressing key issues related to the July-August revolution and current political realities. He emphasized that these recommendations aim to prevent the emergence of a dictatorship in the future.
"We have also proposed reforms in the judicial sector," said Ahmed. "Additionally, we have recommended maintaining the positions of Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, among other suggestions, to ensure a balance of power in the executive and judiciary."
He added that the Constitutional Reform Commission would forward the proposals to the government. If there are disagreements on any of the issues, the elected government will be responsible for taking further action.
Professor Ali Riaz, responding to reporters, stated that the BNP’s proposals had not yet been reviewed. However, he assured that after consultations, necessary recommendations would be made.
