The murder case of Abu Sayed, who was killed by Rangpur police with firearms for joining protests against a disproportionate quota system in government jobs, has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), UNB reports.
The case was moved from the Tajhat Police Station to the PBI on an order from the Police Headquarters on Monday.
ABM Zakir Hossain, the superintendent of police at Rangpur PBI, confirmed the matter.
Abu Sayed was a student of English department at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. The incident occurred on 16 July, when a clash broke out between the police and protesting students at Park Mor in front of the university.
Abu Sayed was shot and killed by the police during the confrontation. The case was initially filed with the district’s Tajhat Police Station on 17 July.
