BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said they gave the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government the necessary time for creating a conducive atmosphere to hold a national election, UNB reports.
“We have given this interim government the time required to create proper environment for holding an election,” he said.
Fakhrul said this while talking to reporters after a meeting between the Chief Adviser and senior BNP leaders at the State Guest House, Jamuna, in the capital.
This is the first formal meeting between the head of the interim government and BNP leaders since the government’s formation on August 8.
The BNP Secretary General, however, said they did not discuss the issue of the election at the meeting.
But they earlier said it will take time to create proper environment for the election.
Mirza Fakhrul said his party is giving full support to all the activities of the current interim government.
BNP standing committee members Khandker Mosharref Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman and Jamiruddin Sircar were also present.
