Members of the police, who were observing work abstention, have called off their programme as the government assured them of accepting many of their demands.
Inspector Jahidul Islam and Constable Shoaib Hasan, coordinators of the protesting police personnel, came up with the announcement after a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser M Sakhawat Hussain at the ministry on Sunday night, reports The Daily Sun.
The inspector general of police (IGP) and the director general of the Rapid Action Battalion were present at the meeting among other officials.
Earlier in the day, the adviser announced “Thursday” as the deadline for policemen to report to their workplaces, warning that the absentees would be considered “not willing” to continue in service.
