The police would provide career boosting certificates to the large number of students who are busy controlling road traffic, cleaning streets and beautifying urban areas across the country, Home Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain said Sunday, reports Daily Sun.
A government project for these works would have a Tk400-Tk1,000 crore budget, but the students are helping save all the public money through their hard work, merit and pocket money, the former army officer said adding that nothing can be more exemplary in any given country.
“I would request the inspector general of police to certify all the volunteer students working with dedication across the country’s urban areas,” he said while visiting police personnel admitted at the Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital with injuries sustained during the student movement against Sheikh Hasina-led government.
Following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and her government on 5 August, agitated general people carried out vicious revenge attacks on a number of police stations across the country for the alleged efforts of many personnel in illegally supporting the authoritarian regime.
All the police personnel of the country went into hiding in the wake of the mob attacks, leaving road traffic in chaos and public order in tatters. In a short interval, students all over the country assumed the responsibility of helping fill the gaps created in traffic management.
