One person was killed and nine others were injured as a fire broke out after an explosion at a two-storey building in Nitaiganj area of Narayanganj on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday morning, reports BSS.
"One person was killed and nine others were injured as a fire broke out after a blast at a two-storey building in Narayanganj's Nitaiganj area," Narayanganj Fire Service Station Fire Fighter Md Rana Miah said.
The deceased was identified as Awlad Hossain while the injured are - Hossain, Rajon, Robi, Hazrat, Jahangir, Sentu, Billal, Nahid and Jamal Deowan.
Rana Miah however said the firefighters already doused the blaze around 10.25 am.
The century-old building caught fire around 9 am after an explosion presumed to happen due to lighting up up an incense stick (agar batti) by a person at one of its floors said our Narayanganj correspondent quoting the locals.
The explosion damaged partially the northern part of the building, he said.
Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Fakhruddin Ahmed said initially the fire-explosion incident is thought to occur due to the gas accumulation.
But, details will be available after a proper investigation, he added.
