The 81st birth anniversary of nuclear scientist of international repute and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband late Dr M A Wazed Miah observed in a befitting manner in Rangpur on Thursday.
On this day in 1942, the nuclear scientist, affectionately called as 'Sudha Miah', was born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighee Fatehpur village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur.
Marking the day, homage was paid by placing wreaths at the family grave of Dr Wazed in village Laldighee Fatehpur in the morning under Pirganj upazila of the district.
Rangpur district and Pirganj upazila parishad, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangshad, Dr Wazed Foundation, Begum Rokeya University, district and Pirganj upazila units of Awami League and its associate bodies and other organisations paid rich tribute to Wazed Miah.
Local Awami League leaders were present at that time.
A milad and dua mahfil was offered on the occasion of the birthday of the nuclear scientist.
Marking the day, food was also distributed among the destitute.
Later, a discussion was organised to commemorate Dr Wazed Miah.
Wazed Miah married Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on November 17, 1967.
They were blessed with a son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and a daughter, Saima Wazed Putul.
