A total of six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital’s Jatrabari-Demra area to maintain law and order following a fierce clash among the students of Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College.
Md Shariful Islam, public relations officer of the BGB, confirmed the media on Monday afternoon (November 25).
Scores of people were injured as students of three colleges -- Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College clashed at Dhaka's Jatrabari on Monday, turning the area into a battlefield.
Eyewitnesses said hundreds of students from Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College allegedly launched an attack on the students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College around 12:00 pm.
They vandalised the college building and looted valuables from the institution, triggering a fierce clash with the students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College.
Earlier on Sunday, students of Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College carried out extensive vandalism and looting at Dhaka National Medical College and Shaheed Suhrawardy College campuses. The attackers claimed a student named Avijit Hawlader died due to wrong treatment at Dhaka National Medical College earlier.
Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College came under attack in retaliation for Sunday's attacks.
