Commerce adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin on Sunday said that China is a big priority of Bangladesh in creating scope for trade cooperation.
“In this regard, Bangladesh is keen to work with China over Free Trade Agreement (FTA),” he added.
The commerce adviser said this when Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met him at his ministry office at the secretariat today, said a commerce ministry press release, reports BSS.
He said China has already announced to provide Bangladesh with cent percent duty free market access from this December while Bangladesh is very keen to seize this opportunity.
Mentioning that Bangladesh enjoys a historic relationship with China, the adviser said that a new dimension has been added to the bilateral relations through attracting more investment and creating scope for more employments in Bangladesh.
The Chinese ambassador said that his country is taking necessary initiatives to import more products from Bangladesh like mangoes, jute and jute-made goods and leather in a bid to reduce the trade deficit.
The envoy also sought support from the commerce adviser in holding a big exposition in July next year in Bangladesh.
Besides, the Chinese ambassador sought support from the commerce adviser in ensuring participation of the Bangladeshi businessmen at the China-Eurosia Trade Exhibition to be held in China.
