Students from more than 35 colleges gathered around Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital (DNMCH) in Old Dhaka, demanding justice for the death of a student from Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) and accountability for those responsible for the assault on them.
The protesters assembled in front of the hospital at around 1pm on Sunday as part of their pre-scheduled demonstration. During the protest, they blocked the hospital's main entrance and damaged the nameplate, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier, the students had breached police barricades at Murgitola and Ray Shaheb Bazar.
Reports indicated that Abhijit Halder, a DMRC student, had been admitted to the hospital’s medicine department on November 16 after contracting dengue. Unfortunately, he passed away just two days later.
Following his death, students had previously blocked the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday, alleging that on those days, students from Kabi Nazrul and Suhrawardy College, along with members of the opposition’s student wing, attacked them.
