Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan (Tejgaon Division) has said a big syndicate is involved in vehicle fraud in the capital, reports UNB.
“We are getting information that they are doing it regularly and continuing these fraudulent activities. We will arrest them as soon as possible,” he at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Wednesday.
He briefed reporters after the recovery of four vehicles worth Tk 3 crore by Tejgaon Industrial Area Police and arrested of five fraudsters in this connection.
The fraudsters were arrested after conducting a series of operations in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj areas after recovery of vehicles on January 14.
The arrestees are Zarak Ahmed,38, Abul Kalam Riftier, 38, Md. Zamir Hossain, 36, Md Sajal Ahmed,30 and Abdur Rahman Rubel, 56.
In response to a question, the Deputy Commissioner of the DMP's Public Relations Division said that various gangs are involved in car theft.
“We cannot specify the exact number of gangs at this moment. We will later provide updated information,” he added.
He said Imdadul Haque Khan, also known as Nowsad 42, a car dealer, had a showroom on the ground floor of Aziz Court, Tejgaon.
Zarak Ahmed, 38, Managing Director of AB Drive Ltd, and Mohammad Jamir Hossain,36,its Chairman, had delivered four cars to the AB Drive showroom in Northda Progotisharani area between November 26 and December 4, 2024 for sale.
The total market value of the four cars was Tk 3 crore.
However, when Imdadul Haque Khan attempted to contact them the accused informed him that they would not return the cars and threatened him.
