Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed winter vegetable seeds among the women from the ethnic community in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday, marking the International Day of Rural Women.
The organisation’s Ghoraghat upazila unit organised the event at Dakkhin Nayapara village where Golam Mostafizar Rahman Milon, adviser of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Hakimpur upazila unit and Hili correspondent of the Kaler Kantho, distributed the seeds among the women.
Ghoraghat upazila unit Shuvosangho President Md Turag Khan, vice-presidents Md Afridi Kabir (Raka) and Sujan Rana, General Secretary Md Kawser Habib, and Hakimpur upazila unit President Tuhin Babu, and General Secretary Khadiza Akter, among others, were present at the programme.
In his speech, Turag Khan said the day commemorates the role of rural women in various fields, including rural development, food security, and poverty alleviation.
“It also reminds us about the women who become victims of domestic violence and discrimination in the workplace. On the occasion of International Day of Rural Women, vegetable seeds were distributed among ethnic community women here on behalf of Bashundhara Shuvosangho,” he added.
Astrela Hansda said, “We, from the ethnic community, always lag behind others. Today, Bashundhara Shuvosangho called and gave us winter vegetable seeds.”
“If we did not come here, we would not come to know that the organisation does such a great job. We did not even know that today marks International Day of Rural Women. We wish all the best for Bashundhara Shuvosangho,” she added.
