Bashundhara Shuvosangho has extended support to the family of a fire victim from the Sattala slum in the capital's Mohakhali.
After seeing photos of the incident in the Kaler Kantho newspaper, Shuvosangho founder Imdadul Haq Milan expressed his desire to provide a sewing machine to Salma Begum, who lost all her belongings in the devastating fire.
On behalf of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Imdadul Haq Milan shared the message through Kaler Kantho photo journalist Lutfar Rahman, who had covered the family's plight in a photo story.
When Salma was contacted about the support, she was overwhelmed with emotion and broke into tears upon hearing the news.
"I was staying under the open sky with my husband and four daughters. I never dreamed I would hear such happy news in the morning," said Salma Begum, expressing her gratitude to Bashundhara Group.
Her daughter, Jannatul Ferdous, a ninth-grade student, who used to sew occasionally with her mother, was also moved by the news. She wiped away her tears upon hearing that a new sewing machine would soon be arriving at their home.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman confirmed that the sewing machine will be handed over to Salma’s family soon.
