Shuvosangho, a charitable organization of Bashundhara Group, has distributed food aid among the flood-affected people of Phulpur Upazila in Mymensingh.
The volunteers of the social welfare platform handed over the food supports to at least 21 helpless families through a programme held at Phulpur Pilot Girls’ High School around 11am on Saturday.
The food items include three kg of rice, half a kg of lentils, half a kg of soybean oil, and a kg packet of salt. Many families expressed their happiness after getting these daily essential items.
The flood situation in the upazila worsened due to recent heavy rainfall and sudden mountain runoff, leaving many people in acute crises.
Although the water has started receding, many families have lost their houses to the river erosion. Now, they are also struggling to manage their families, as they are left without food supplies.
Phulpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer ABM Ariful Islam attended the programme as chief guest while Mehedi Hasan Farroque, deputy commissioner (land) of the upazila as special guest.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Adviser Agriculturist Kamrul Hasan, journalists Mustafa Khan and Shah Nafiullah Saikat, IFIC Bank official Alameinul Hasan, Shuvosangho President Ziaur Rahman Panna, General Secretary Nishit Sarker Mithu, members Fatema Akhter, Razia Sultana Baqul, among others, were present at the function.
