Gold prices in the country have reached a new record, with 22-carat gold rising by Tk1,154 to Tk1,56,099 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest ever in the country.
The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting on Tuesday, citing the price hike of pure gold in the local market.
On March 18, gold prices hit a record high of Tk1,54,945 per bhori.
As per the new rate, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk13,383 per gram, and 21-carat Tk12,774 per gram.
The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk10,949 a gram while that of traditional gold at Tk9,028 per gram.
New prices will come into effect on Wednesday, according to a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the committee.
However, prices of silver remained unchanged.
The price of 22-carat silver is Tk221 per gram, 21-carat Tk210, 18-carat Tk181, and traditional one is Tk136 per gram.
