National Citizen Party (NCP) member secretary Akhtar Hossain has said that democracy would mark victorious in the country if fascist forces can’t contest the upcoming polls.

“NCP has been demanding trial of Awami League as a party and cancellation of its registration so that no one in Bangladesh can do politics with its name and symbol,” he told reporters before starting a rickshaw van procession at Mahiganj Glass Factory ground in Rangpur city on Thursday noon.

Akhtar said that people of the country expect and want to build the future Bangladesh with the help of those youths who played a crucial role to oust the fascist regime and after that the country has got the opportunity to be emerged in a democratic environment.

“Jatiya Nagorik Party has started working on that journey,” he said.

Regarding the upcoming elections, he said, we think that the interim government will move towards the elections by ensuring visible progress in reforms and judicial activities.

However, in terms of elections, there is definitely the reality of the Constituent Assembly elections.

“The people of the country do not want the country's governance structure to be run with a constitution that is fascist, dictatorial, and undemocratic and that deprives the people of their rights,” he said.

He said, “The people of the country expect a new constitution. I hope that all the active anti-fascist political parties will respect the people's aspirations regarding the Constituent Assembly elections.”

He said that the Chief Adviser has spoken about holding elections between December and June.

If other political forces cooperate with the interim government, then it is possible to make the reform and justice process visible in a very short time and move towards the elections.

“It can create a real situation that elections can be held within this time limit,” Akhtar Hossain said.

He said Awami League and Jatiya Party have colluded and held three consecutive dummy and farcical elections.

Due to the collusion of these two parties, the people of the country were completely deprived of democracy. These two political parties were behind the fascists' maneuvers for a long time.

Awami League leaders and activists as individuals and Awami League as a party were involved in the Pilkhana massacre, the anti-Modi movement massacre, the Shapla Square massacre and the July massacre.

Earlier, at the beginning of his speech, NCP Member-secretary Akhtar Hossain said that a month after the formation of the NCP party, he came to inquire about the people of Pirgachha and Kawnia in his own birthplace area.

He mentioned that he came to Rangpur with the overall objective of finding out about the political thoughts and mindsets of local people and thus preparing himself for the future politics and making the politics of the NCP in Bangladesh more dynamic.

Local NCP organizers Alamgir Nayan, Toufiq Islam and other local leaders were present at the time.

Later, Akhtar Hossain led a huge procession with leaders and activists in more than 200 paraded at various places in Deuti, Syedpur, Kadamtala, Pirgachha, Nek Mamud (Tambulpur), Paotanahat, Bhaierhat in Pirgachha upazila and Tepamadhur of Kawnia upazila.
