The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the greatest religious festivals of the Muslims, is being celebrated in the country on Monday as the moon of Shawwal month of 1446 Hijri was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh on Sunday, reports BSS.
"The moon of Holy Shawwal month of 1446 Hijri was sighted in the sky of the country yesterday . . . The holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated on Monday (today)," Religious Affairs Adviser and National Moon Sighting Committee President Dr AFM Khalid Hossain told reporters after the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
Earlier, a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee was held at the meeting room of Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque here this evening with the adviser in the chair.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a message greeting the countrymen as well as the Muslims across the world on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
The main jamaat of the Eid-ul-Fitr held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises here at 8.30 am.
Besides, five Eid jamaats (congregation) held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The first Eid jamaat held at 7am. The second take place at 8am, while the third one at 9am and the fourth one at 10am. The last Eid jamaat held at 10:45am.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus offered the prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr along with hundreds of musollis from all walks of life at the National Eidgah Maidan.
Apart from the head of the state, the country's noted personalities, including chief justice, Advisory Council members, judges of the Supreme Court, senior political leaders and high level civil and military officials will also say their prayers there.
The Eid jamaat at the National Eidgah held under the auspices of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Special arrangement has been made for women to offer Eid prayers at the national Eidgah. DMP has taken special security measures to ensure law and order during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Besides, another Eid jamaat held on premises of the old venue of Dhaka Int'l Trade Fair in the city's Agargaon for the first time this year. After the prayers, a Mughal-style colorful procession, along with a fair, take place there.
