The 12-party alliance has submitted a reform proposal to the National Consensus Commission.
The leaders of the 12 parties submitted the proposal to the Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Badiul Alam Majumder, at the commission office adjacent to the National Parliament Building on Thursday afternoon.
Out of the 166 proposals of the commission, the 12-party alliance agreed with 110, disagreed with 48. They commented that there is room for discussion on eight proposals.
In this context, the spokesperson of the 12-party alliance, Shahadat Hossain Salim, told the journalists, “Except for the electoral-centric reforms, the remaining reforms have been proposed to be implemented by the elected parliament. We completely disagreed with issues such as changing the name of the state, referendum, Constituent Assembly, and local government elections. The only way to overcome the instability and crisis prevailing in the country at present is to hold a very early parliamentary election. The 12-party alliance is strongly demanding that the parliamentary elections be completed by October.”
Also present at the time were Mufti Maulana Mohiuddin Ekram, secretary general of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Kalyan Party chairman Shamsuddin Parvez, and Labor Party secretary general Aminul Islam.
