Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has stated that the 2024 uprising took place to protect the independence achieved in 1971.
He made this remark while speaking to journalists on Wednesday (March 26) at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, after paying tribute to the heroic freedom fighters of 1971.
During the conversation, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud said, “1971(referring to the war that took place in 1971) gave birth to this nation and we achieved independence. However, the concept of independence was completely destroyed in the last 16 years. We believe that unless every citizen of the country feels independent, has freedom of speech, and freedom of expression; mere territorial independence holds no value. We think that 2024(referring to the mass uprising) safeguarded that independence.”
He further added, “2024(referring to the mass uprising) is another step in the ongoing struggle to protect the independence achieved in 1971. This independence will prevail in Bangladesh in the coming days. The people of this country will never feel shackled in this free land.”
