Thousands of protesters have gathered at the central Shaheed Minar as part of the previously announced program by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, protesting recent attacks on demonstrators.
Students from Dhaka College, City College, and Dhanmondi Ideal College blocked the Science Lab intersection and then began their procession towards the Shaheed Minar, chanting slogans to support their demands, Daily Sun reports.
The demonstration aims to protest the attacks, killings, and violence against student and citizen movements across the country and to press for their nine-point demand.
Simultaneously, students from BRAC University and East-West University staged demonstrations, blocking the Badda-Rampura road. They were soon joined by students from other institutions and people from all walks of life in small processions.
Earlier, on Friday night, Asif Mahmud, one of the Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement, through a Facebook post urged all to gather in front of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
Asif wrote on his Facebook post, "I urge all protesting students and mass people to gather on Shaheed Minar with the small procession at 3:00 pm. We the coordinators will be there at that time as part of countrywide demonstration".
