The High Court has fixed Tuesday for the order on the writ petition seeking a directive not to shoot at the students during the agitation.
After the hearing on Monday afternoon, the High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan set the date.
Earlier in Monday morning, barrister Anik R Haque applied for this writ in the relevant branch of the High Court.
In the application, the relatives of the students who have been agitating around the quota movement have been detained or arrested recently and requested to be released.
Recently, a violent situation was created all over the country, including Dhaka, around the students' movement demanding quota reforms in government jobs. Many people including students were shot dead in clashes at different places. The government has so far received the information of 147 loss of lives in the conflict created due to the movement. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan gave this information about the number of casualties in a briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The continuous movement of students started on July 1 demanding reform of quota. Protests spread across the country including Dhaka after the clashes surrounding the students’ movement on July 15 in Dhaka University campus. Later, during the movement, attacks, clashes, violence, vandalism, arson and casualties occurred in different areas of the country including Dhaka.
