Mentioning that movement of hilsa fishes and their breeding place has changed due to climate change, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim called upon fishermen organizations and law enforcement agencies to prevent masterminds from catching mother hilsa.
He made the call while addressing a press briefing in the capital on the occasion of the national 'Jatka Conservation Week-2023' on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim at a workshop warned that jatka catchers, hoarders, transporters and sellers will be brought under book.
The fisheries and Livestock ministry arranged the workshop titled ‘Evaluation and Future Plan of 'Jatka Conservation Week-2022'.
Fisheries and Livestock secretary Dr Nahid Rashid presided over the function.
Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Chairman Kazi Ashraf Uddin and Director General of the Department of Fisheries Mahbubul Haque were present in the workshop.
