The maiden Bengali language course for Turkish people is set to launch on Monday, report The Daily Sun.
The course will be inaugurated via Zoom to bridge the gap between the citizens of Bangladesh and Turkey.
The course offered online will be free, reads a joint press release from Take Me Home and the Bangladesh Study and Research Center at Istanbul Gedik University.
The inaugural event will feature renowned folk singer Farida Parveen as the Guest of Honour. Hulya Gedik, the President of the Board of Trustees at Istanbul Gedik University, will attend the event as a special guest.
Notable representatives from Turkish and Bangladeshi civil society will give speeches in the event which will be moderated by Bangladeshi journalist Sadea Naowar Khan.
“Through language learning, we hope to bridge the gap between our cultures and promote greater understanding and appreciation. On completion of the course, students will receive certificates from Istanbul Gedik University, which will open new doors for the Turkish people to explore the history and culture of Bangladesh,” said Kamrun Nahar, the Director of Bangladesh Study and Research Center.
Shakil Reja Efti, director of Take Me Home, said they have been working tirelessly to promote the beauty of diversity and multilingualism.
“Our aim is to archive the languages, traditions, cultures, and related identities that are at risk of disappearing, and we believe that language learning is a powerful tool for preserving and promoting cultural heritage,” he said.
Efti also said they have already received a great response to this course, and they have invited Turkish citizens to join the exciting journey of discovering and exploring the Bengali language and culture.
