Members of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in an anti-smuggling operation seized 957 grams of gold and arrested one person over his connection with the smugling from Godagari upazila in the Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon, reports BSS.
The arrestee was identified as Muhammad Kamruzzaman, 27, son of Abdul Mannan of Bakchar village under Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila, said the DNC sources.
On a tip-off, a patrol team of the DNC in association with police arrested Kamruzzaman with eight gold bars weighing 957 grams worth around Taka 52 lakh red-handed around 12.30 noon.
Quoting confessional statements of the arrested person, DNC Inspector Parveen Akter told the journalists that the person was taking the gold to the neighbouring country. He was involved in illicit trafficking and trading for a long time, he added.
A case was recorded with Godagari Police Station in this connection and the arrested person along with the seized gold was handed over to police.
