For more than a decade, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has continued to support underprivileged families, students and communities across Bangladesh through education, livelihood assistance, healthcare and humanitarian initiatives.
Since its establishment in 2010 with the slogan "Shubho Kajey Shobar Pashe" (Standing beside everyone in good causes), the organisation has expanded its activities nationwide with financial support from Bashundhara Group.
Over the years, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has helped thousands of disadvantaged students continue their education through scholarships and financial assistance while extending support to families facing hardship.
One such family belonged to a rickshaw puller who struggled to meet the educational expenses of his three children. After a newspaper report highlighted their situation in 2017, Bashundhara Shuvosangho located the family, purchased an auto-rickshaw for the father and took responsibility for the children's education.
The initiative helped the family become financially stable. The eldest daughter completed her nursing education and now works as a professional nurse, while the younger daughter also completed nursing studies. Their brother earned a diploma in livestock studies and secured a job at a leading company.
In another case, Bashundhara Shuvosangho supported a family living in extreme poverty on government land in Goalanda. The organisation built a two-room house, provided household essentials, livestock and educational support for all four children. The eldest son now studies at the University of Rajshahi, while his elder sister attends college.
Beyond educational support, the organisation has built homes for vulnerable families, helped people become self-reliant by providing livestock and small businesses, distributed wheelchairs to people with disabilities and extended financial assistance to families in need.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho also carries out large-scale humanitarian programmes, including blanket distribution during winter, relief assistance during floods, blood donation campaigns, tree plantation drives and environmental awareness initiatives.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, volunteers of the organisation delivered one month's food supplies to 50,000 families across 16 districts in northern Bangladesh.
The organisation currently provides scholarships to thousands of talented students from low-income families and monthly financial assistance to many vulnerable households. Volunteers also respond to emergency requests for blood donation and provide support whenever communities face hardship.
To promote women's economic empowerment, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has established sewing training centres in districts and upazilas across the country. The 12-week training programme is free of charge, and each participant receives a sewing machine upon completion. The organisation currently distributes around 100 sewing machines every month under the programme.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho has also established 21 schools in remote areas where access to primary education remains limited, including a school in Char Agasti of Galachipa upazila in Patuakhali. In addition, it operates 10 community libraries to encourage reading among children and young people.
As part of its environmental campaign, the organisation plans to plant at least 50,000 saplings during the current monsoon season.
With a nationwide network of volunteers and hundreds of branches, Bashundhara Shuvosangho says it remains committed to improving lives through education, social welfare, environmental conservation and humanitarian service, contributing to the vision of a more prosperous and compassionate Bangladesh.
