Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that legal action will be taken against those involved in social media propaganda and cyber crimes.
He said that exemplary justice will be ensured by identifying the criminals through a fair investigation.
The Home Minister said this during a courtesy call on Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef S. Y. Ramadan at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Raising the issue of propaganda through social media, the Home Minister has said that Bangladesh is a progressive and liberal Muslim country. Any attempt or propaganda to present Bangladesh differently through social media to tarnish the image of the country in the international arena will be strictly restrained.
He has said that legal action will be taken against those involved in such cyber crimes and propaganda by quickly identifying them and taking them through a fair investigation and ensuring exemplary justice.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, brought together fruitful discussions on law and order and security cooperation between the two countries, easing visa issuance for Palestinian students, and various issues of mutual interest.
In the meeting, the Home Minister said that Bangladesh has historically been unwavering in its support for the Palestinian struggle for independence and the establishment of a sovereign state.
He said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman played a strong and unforgettable role in garnering public opinion and support for Palestine at the international and diplomatic levels during that time.
Bangladesh's principled and moral support for Palestine will continue in the future as well.
The Palestinian Ambassador said, “A large number of Palestinian students are pursuing higher education in various government and private educational institutions in Bangladesh.”
He sought special cooperation in providing on-arrival visas to facilitate their arrival and studies in Bangladesh.
The Home Minister directed the concerned officials to provide all-out cooperation in this regard. At the same time, he requested the Ambassador to send a formal letter to the Home Ministry in this regard through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador also requested that if any Palestinian citizen or student applies for a Bangladesh visa at the Bangladesh Embassies located in various Middle Eastern countries, a copy of that application should be sent to the Palestine Embassy in Dhaka for proper verification.
In response, the Home Minister said, "As a Muslim brotherly country, we love and trust Palestine from the bottom of our hearts. Bangladesh is always ready to provide all kinds of cooperation for the welfare of the citizens of Palestine."
At the beginning of the meeting, the Home Minister welcomed the Palestinian Ambassador. The Ambassador congratulated him on assuming his new responsibility and wished him well.
