The Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed farm animals among poverty-ridden families in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Thursday, marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
One beneficiary, housewife Amina Begum hails from Sarkarpara village in Begunbari union of the upazila.
She received some chickens and ducks from Bashundhara Shuvosangho members, and promptly expressed her gratitude.
Amina said her husband earns minimal wages as a day-labourer, and many a time does not have any work. As a result, the family of five has to struggle to make ends meet, and often spend days half-fed.
Upon receiving Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s gifts, she affirmed the family would never again spend days half-fed due to financial constraints, as she would be able to support her husband in bearing expenses.
She is capable of taking care of the chickens and ducks she received, and earn a living from these, Amina noted.
During the handover of the farm animals, present were: Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee Joint General Secretary Md Yasir Arafat Rafi, the organisation’s Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila unit Joint General Secretary Sadek Hossain, the unit’s Assistant Organisational Secretary Abu Sufian, and more.
