The BNP will hold talks with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today (Wednesday) to seek a clear and specific roadmap for the next parliamentary elections.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior leaders of the party will join the meeting at State Guest House Jamuna at 12:00 pm, the BNP Media Cell said on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Mirza Fakhrul told reporters that he is confident about forging unity with the government and other stakeholders to resolve all thorny issues, including the election roadmap, through talks.
Senior party leaders have told reporters that in his last speech, Prof Yunus set a wide time span between December 2025 and June 2026 to hold the next general election. This is not a specific roadmap, they said.
In today’s meeting, BNP will specifically want to know the thoughts and position of the interim government regarding the elections, the party leaders said.
They have also alleged that the government is creating a "cloud of confusion" over the election date.
"We will definitely ask the chief adviser for a roadmap for the next parliamentary elections before December and urge him to present it before the nation in a proper manner so that any sense of uncertainty is removed," BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters recently.
He further said, "We will say this time is enough. Before that, we discussed it with the Election Commission. They will be able to complete all the preparations by June. The chief adviser also assured us earlier that they are conducting all the activities to hold the elections by December."
Meanwhile, a BNP delegation will meet the National Consensus Commission (NCC) tomorrow to discuss state reforms, the BNP Media Cell said.
The meeting will be held at the NCC office at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 3:00 pm.
