Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has strongly condemned the recent forceful break-ins at student dormitories, calling the actions violations of university rules and national law. The university has urged students to remain calm and trust in the decisions made by the KUET syndicate, reports UNB.
The condemnation follows heightened tensions on campus, sparked by violent clashes on February 18 between general students and members of Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the opposition BNP. The unrest led to widespread demands for a ban on student politics within the university.
In response, KUET authorities held their 99th syndicate meeting on February 25, where it was decided that all residential halls would be closed indefinitely. Students were instructed to vacate their accommodations by 10 a.m. the following day.
On Monday, the university announced the suspension of 37 students who were allegedly involved in the February violence. KUET stated that its student disciplinary committee would review the investigation report and determine final disciplinary actions as per syndicate instructions.
Tensions intensified on Tuesday when groups of students forcibly entered several locked dormitories, demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahmud.
In a press release issued later that evening, KUET also addressed the spread of misleading information. Officials noted that various unofficial lists naming supposed perpetrators were circulating online and clarified that no formal list had been published. The university urged students to avoid misinformation and remain committed to academic order and discipline.
