A total of 2,67,857 metric tons (MTs) of rice have been imported from India through 6,434 trucks via Dinajpur’s Hili Land Port over the past five months.
Yusuf Ali, assistant director of the Plant Quarantine office at Hili Land Port Customs Department, confirmed the information, reports BSS.
He said rice import from India will be suspended from today (April 16), as per the agreement between the two countries. According to the agreement, the rice import window set by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce remains valid until April 16.
Over the five-month period, traders under the Hili Land Port Import-Export Factors Association successfully imported the entire volume from India, he added.
