Renowned economist Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam said the posts of bank directors has to be cancelled to recover loans defaulted by them. Their assets have to be confiscated if necessary.
He said this while talking to The Bangladesh Pratidin on Wednesday. He said Bangladesh Bank can do the job of recovering defaulted loans from the bank directors. Above all, the assets kept mortgaged for the loans have to be confiscated.
The former caretaker government advisor said the bank directors are taking loans from banks of their known directors, and vice versa. They’re not repaying the loans at the same time.
Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam said, “Political honest-willingness is needed to recover defaulted loans. Involvement from high-level is needed to be stopped while taking actions against the defaulters. Jurisdiction process has to be taken additionally. It’s seen that the default person of organization makes writ in high court and suspends the judgment work for indefinite period. We’ve to come out of this kind of situation. The finance ministry and BB should take the assistance of Chief Justice in this regard.”
