In the child rape case in Magura, the main accused, Hitu Sheikh, has been placed on a seven-day remand, and the remaining three accused have been granted five days remand each.
The court approved the remand after a hearing late Sunday.
Magura’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Matin issued the order. The accused in this case include the victim's brother-in-law Sajib Hossain (18), her sister’s father-in-law Hitu Sheikh (42), an underage boy (17), and their mother, Jabeda Begum (40).
The remand hearing began at midnight on Monday. The investigating officer of the case requested a seven-day remand for the accused. No lawyer defended the accused during the hearing.
The investigating officer stated that as the victim was unconscious, a statement could not be taken from her, making it crucial to interrogate the accused.
Earlier, protests were held in Magura throughout Sunday, demanding the death penalty for those involved in the child rape to be carried out within 24 hours. From 11 am to 2:30 pm, protesters blocked the main entrance of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
Later, they held a torch procession in the city.
