Recently, the capital has consistently ranked among the most polluted cities globally. This morning (Monday), the air quality in Dhaka remained in a 'very unhealthy' state for public health.
According to data from the international air quality technology company IQAir, as of 7:30 am, Dhaka topped the list of the world's most polluted cities with a score of 237.
Meanwhile, Lahore in Pakistan ranked second on the list with a score of 223.
Due to climate change and various other factors, air pollution is on the rise in cities around the world. For a long time, the megacity of Dhaka has also been grappling with severe air pollution.
The AQI categorizes air quality levels as follows: a score between 50 and 100 is considered ‘moderate,’ 101 to 150 is ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups,’ 150 to 200 is ‘unhealthy,’ 201 to 300 is ‘very unhealthy,’ and anything above 301 is labeled ‘hazardous,’ carrying severe health risks.
The AQI is a measure used to assess daily air quality, providing insights into pollution levels and potential health impacts.
