Shahbagh and Dhaka University (DU) stations of the Metro Rail will be closed for four hours during the Ananda Shobhajatra on the first day of Paherla Baishakh, DU authorities have said.
This information was shared at a press conference on Friday.
It was informed at the press conference that the Shahbagh and DU stations of the Metro Rail will be closed from 8 am to 12 noon for the procession. Apart from this, the mass people will get the opportunity to celebrate Baishakh in the DU area until 5 pm. After that, the mass people will not be allowed to enter the university area.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “The people's protest against the oprresive political system will be reflected in this year's celebration. 28 ethnic groups and various cultural organizations are joining this year's event.”
This year, the Ananda Shobhajatra will be held instead of the Mangal Shobhajatra, said Professor Dr. Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh, the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of DU, mentioning that this time the 'New Year's Joyful Procession' will be celebrated under the theme 'New Year's Unity, End of Fascism'.
