Film actor and road safety campaigner Ilias Kanchan has launched a new political party named Janata Party Bangladesh (JPB).
With the slogan, “Gorbo Mora Insafer Desh” (We will build a nation of justice), the name of the party was disclosed at a programme held at the InterContinental Dhaka on Friday morning.
Ilias Kanchan is the chairman of the party while former Jatiya Press Club president Shawkat Mahmud, who was also a vice-chairman of the BNP, holds the post of secretary general.
At the event, Shawkat announced the party’s name officially and read out its manifesto.
In his speech, Ilias claimed the new party was not formed to take any political advantage.
“Everyone’s involvement is a must to build a new national unity. And, we have no objection to forging an alliance if our ideals and goals align with other parties,” he said.
Mentioning his commitment to serving the country with integrity, the JPB leader sought the support of the countrymen and appealed to everyone to look upon any mistakes with a forgiving attitude.
Ilias Kanchan announced a 27-member ad-hoc committee of the party at the programme.
On Thursday, Janatar Bangladesh Party Chairman Shafiqul Islam Sabuj Khan sent a legal notice to Ilias Kanchan over a dispute involving their party names.
