Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has said, “We want a country where there is no exploitation, oppression, or discrimination among people; where we will not be the champion in corruption, and everyone enjoys equal rights.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a conference held at the Circuit House grounds in Mymensingh city at 11 a.m. today (Friday).
The Jamaat Ameer said, “We are hearing that a proposal has been made to turn the parliament into a bicameral system. The main authority will lie with the lower house. This will follow the current system, while the upper house will be formed based on the proportional representation (PR) system. If the upper house can follow the PR system, why can’t the lower house? Why does a single country need two different systems? Sixty-two countries around the world hold elections based on the PR system. Out of 26 European countries, 16 follow the PR system. If they have been benefiting from it for generations, then who are we to deprive our nation of this advantage?”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said, “A report has recently been submitted in the name of women’s rights reform. Several sections of this report contain recommendations that go completely against the Qur’an and Sunnah. But those who submitted these recommendations do not represent the 95 million mothers of this country. The direction they want to take society in will not be allowed. Once the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, returns to the country, a call will be made to scrap the report.”
