Hamza Choudhury, currently the biggest name in the Bangladesh national football team, is set to make his much-anticipated home debut against Singapore on June 10 at the National Stadium in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) expects a surge in spectators eager to watch the Sheffield United midfielder play on home soil. Several other expatriate footballers are also expected to feature in the fixture.
Given the high level of interest, ticket demand is expected to soar, and the BFF is keen to capitalise on the opportunity. In a bid to bring supporters back to the stadium, the country’s football governing body plans to sell tickets online.
With that goal in mind, the BFF’s Competition Committee held a meeting on Thursday (April 24), which was also attended by officials from the National Sports Council (NSC).
Following the meeting, committee member Tajwar Awal said, “We want to bring fans back to the stadium. We discussed several aspects of the stadium today to ensure supporters can attend and enjoy the match. The National Sports Council is assisting us.
Recently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has started selling tickets online. The BFF aims to follow that path—we will sell tickets online. The ticket prices will be finalised in consultation with the marketing committee and the federation, and BFF will officially announce the prices later.”
Although Hamza made his international debut for Bangladesh last month against India, the Singapore match will mark his first appearance on home turf.
The BFF is aiming to sell over 18,000 tickets online for the upcoming match.
“There will be around 18,300 tickets available for the general gallery. We want to offer tickets online as well. The marketing committee will determine the ticket prices after discussions with the BFF,” said Tajwar.
The National Stadium is currently undergoing renovations, which are expected to be completed before June.
