Dhaka, the densely populated capital of Bangladesh, recorded an AQI score of 167 at 9:15 am today (Sunday), placing it eighth among cities with the worst air quality.
According to the AQI index, the air in Dhaka was classified as ‘unhealthy,’ posing potential health risks to residents, reports UNB.
The AQI categorizes air quality levels as follows: a score between 50 and 100 is considered ‘moderate,’ 101 to 150 is ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups,’ 150 to 200 is ‘unhealthy,’ 201 to 300 is ‘very unhealthy,’ and anything above 301 is labeled ‘hazardous,’ carrying severe health risks.
Among the cities with the poorest air quality today, Beijing in China, Delhi in India, and Kathmandu in Nepal ranked first, second, and fourth, with AQI scores of 228, 219, and 195, respectively.
The AQI is a measure used to assess daily air quality, providing insights into pollution levels and potential health impacts.
