Interim government’s home affairs adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, inspected four police stations in Dhaka on early Monday morning.
During his visit, he examined the reception rooms, detention cells, and various checkpoints across the capital, according to a media release from the ministry.
The adviser spoke with duty officers and law enforcement personnel and provided necessary instructions. He directed law enforcement members to be more proactive, vigilant, and cautious while performing their duties.
During the visit, he also inspected several checkpoints established at key intersections of the city and spoke to the officers on duty. Additionally, he monitored the activities of several joint patrol teams.
Responding to journalists' questions, the adviser stated that the government is determined to maintain law and order during Ramadan. To this end, nearly a hundred checkpoints have been set up at crucial points in the capital, and patrol frequency has been increased in crime-prone areas, he mentioned.
To ensure nighttime monitoring of these checkpoints and patrol teams, officials from various levels of the Ministry of Home Affairs have been assigned regular duties.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury further stated that those involved in mob violence, theft, robbery, extortion, rape, violence against women and children, and other criminal activities that disrupt law and order will be brought to justice. No one will be shown any leniency.
The adviser stressed that the purpose of this inspection was to ensure that police stations are functioning properly during Ramadan, that law enforcement members are vigilant, and that they are carrying out their responsibilities diligently.
