Bashundhara Shuvosongho members organized an awareness campaign in Adamdighi Upazila, Bogura aimed at preventing the use of polythene, one of the biggest threats to health and the environment.
The campaign was held at Sandira Shahid Siraj Khan Memorial Academy High School in the upazila on Monday with the participation of over 200 students of the school.
During the event, Engineer Nazrul Islam, chief advisor of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Adamdighi branch, urged everyone to take a stand against polythene use in the presence of students from grades six to ten.
“If the environment is healthy, we will be healthy,” he said and highlighted the harms of using polythene and discussed possible alternatives to the plastic substance.
He further mentioned, "Through this noble initiative of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, the students have gained a clear understanding of the need to ban polythene bags and such plastic products.
Aminul Islam Suman, president of the Shuvosangho branch said the organisation has always been working for the welfare of the country and its people as well.
“We are witnessing the impact of climate change on the environment and we must protect our environment. Therefore, we have no alternative but to undertake such initiatives to prevent the use of polythene,” he said.
Other attendees included Enamul Haque, headmaster of Shahid Siraj Khan Memorial Academy, Assistant Teacher Rubel Hossain, Aminul Islam Sohag, Santahar Press Club General Secretary and Kaler Kantho local correspondent Tarikul Islam Jentu, Hasibul Islam Shakil, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Adamdighi branch General Secretary Hitler and teachers of the school Mahfuza, Jahangir and Amjad, among others.
